What happens at a Nice Rice food drop?
A Nice Rice food drop is a delivery of free rice rolls, handed directly to people who need food at distribution sites in Denver. Before a drop, the food is prepared and stored. On delivery day, the rolls are heated and transported to the site.
If you are new to Nice Rice, the word “drop” may not tell you much on its own. Here is what it means in practice.
Before the delivery
Our rice rolls contain rice, eggs, butter, and spices. We prepare the rolls, wrap them in foil, and store them frozen until a drop. Donations and store revenue support the ingredients, equipment, and work involved.
The preparation and storage steps let us make the food before transporting it. Our How page explains the published process, and our roll information page lists the ingredients.
At the drop
The rolls are heated and brought to distribution sites in Denver, where they are handed out free of charge.
A past drop report records a delivery that has already happened. To ask about current plans or opportunities to help, contact team@nicerice.org.
Afterward: the record of the work
Nice Rice shares delivery updates in the Drops archive. Individual entries include dates, photographs, and roll counts where those details have been recorded.
For example, Drop 38 records 94 rolls donated on October 10, 2026. A roll count describes food distributed; it should not be read as a count of unique recipients.
These records give supporters a concrete way to look at the work behind a donation.
How to help
You can support Nice Rice with a one-time or monthly donation, buy something from the store, or visit our Get Involved page.
If you are considering giving, reading a recent drop report is a useful place to start. It connects the simple idea of a free rice roll to a dated record of a delivery in Denver.
